THE ELLERSLIE EPISODE.

Sir,_lt has puzzled me always to know why, at Ellerslie there is not an assistant 'to the clerk of the course, mounted some little distance down the course from the starting point, with a conspicuous flag, the starter to have another flag. The assistant's duty would be to watch the starter, and in case of a false start the starter would raise his flag. Iho assistant would then take the signal, iiold out his flag, and all the riders would have to do would be to glance ahead and sco if all was clear. I would like to know if the club considers this idea worth trying. R- Tindall.
