THE ANGLICAN SYNOD.
BUSINESS SESSION OPENS.
IMMIGRATION COMMITTEE WORK.
The third business! session of the 25th Synod of the Auckland Diocese was opened in St. Mary'is Hall yesterday, the Primate, Archbishop Averill, presiding over a large attendance. Synod adjourned in the morning after the president had delivered tho remaining portion of his charge. Numerous reports were presented on resuming and various administrative Questions were also considered.
Tho report of the immigration committee for the 10 months ended August 31 stated that four drafts of lads had arrived from England under the Church of England immigration scheme and all had been found positions on farms. Since last May, 86 youths had arrived, of whom 30 were in the Auckland Diocese and 64 were to arrive in the near future. There wore already 230 youths working under the care of the committee and in the majority of cases they wore giving satisfactory service in farming districts. Tho young settlers were contented and only ono had returned to his people because of proving unsuited for farm work. Applications were being made freely for (hose boys on farms and although thoso who came to New Zealand with the first two drafts had now completed their term under the care of tho committee it was gratifying to know they continued to keep in touch with it.
The following officers were elected for tho duration of synod:—Clerical secretary, Rev. P. S. Smftllfield; lay secretary, Mr. T. Charter; chairman of committee, Mr. C. J. Tunks; cleric of committee, Rev. G. Gordon Bell.
