ACCIDENTALLY DROWNED.
DEATH IN WANGANUI RIVER.
[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] WANGANUI. Thursday An inquest concerning tho death of Archibald Stanley Benton, who was drowned in the Wanganui River on .September 28, was held this morning before Mr. J. J. Pilkington, the coroner. A daughter of deceased, Olive Mavis Benton, said that on September 28 her father had been collecting firewood during the afternoon in a flat-bottomed boat. At about 6.45 p.m. ho left tho house, saying lie was going to get. a log of wood and would not be long away, but he never returned Deceased was a good swimmer.
Evidence regarding the finding of the boat was given by William Oswald Benton, a brother of the deceased. Constable Hollinshead said ho found the body yesterday on Putiki Beach. The coroner's verdict was that deceased was accidentally drowned on September 28.
