NEW BUILDING PROVISIONS. Special amendments to the building and subdivision by-laws wero passed by the Mount Wellington Road Board iit a special meeting last evening. The chairman, Mr. G. H. Kay, presided. It was decided to fix a brick area comprising the frontages and for a depth of 25ft. along Hoth sides of tho EllersliePanmuro Road, the Mount Wellington highway, and' tho portion of the Great South lload in tho board's district, within which buildings could in future bo altered or erected only in brick, stone, or con crete. It was also decided to fix the minimum si/.e. of shop sites at 20ft. frontage and. in the caso of continuous blocks, at 16ft. for each shop, back cut ranee from a public right-of-way to be provided in each case. Back entrances would not, however, bo insisted on for one shop, or a combined shop and dwelling house on a section having a frontago of not less than 50ft. At a 'genoral meeting following tho special meeting advico was received from tlie Post and Telegraph Department, that tho high troes besido tho Ellerslio-Pan-rnure Road were menacing tlio department's wires, and intimating that if in future uny branches fell across the lines the hoard would bo responsible for all expense incurred in the removal of the fault. It was decided to notify the owners of all the land on which the trees were growing to cut them back iinmedint ely. The Auckland Electric-Power Board for warded an authority to the board to re pair a section of the concrete strip on the Great South Road damaged by the operations of the power board when laying tho 22,000-volt cable. As tho matter concerned tho Main Highways Board also it was decided to forward the authority to tlio district engineer, Public Works Department, before taking further action in I lie matter. Plans of subdivision wero passed for residential sites on the. Mount Wellington highway, Ellerslio-l'anmuro Road and Forndaio Road.
