CHAMBER OF COMMERCE. YEAR OF ACTIVE WORK. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.! TUAKAU. Wednesday. The annual meeting of (lie Tuakau Chamber of Commerce was held last evening, the retiring president, Mr. S. W. Turley, presiding. In his report for tho year the president stated that at the instance of tho chamber a wig-wag signal had been installed at the Tuakau level crossing, a direct telephone line between (he Tuakau and Auckland exchanges had boon provided, and the director of town-planning had visited Tuakau, with the result that a public meeting had asked tho Town Board to obtain a town-planning scheme for Tuakau. The chamber had also fostered the establishment of pig saleyards at Tuakau, which had now been provided by one of the livestock auctioneering firms.

Suggested sites for swimming baths for t In- town had been inspected. This matter had now been taken up by the lown Board. Further, the chamber had convened a public meeting at which a committee had been set. up to establish a public library in Tuakau. It was anticipated that tho library would bo available next year. Matters whicn the chamber still had 'in hand comprised the provision of a metalled road outlet to tlie south in continuation of the, Tuakau-Whangarat a Road, and the. vesting of the vacant corner near the Tuakau railway station in tho Town Hoard for beautification purposes.' The financial statement showed a credit balance of £1 ss. Tho election of officers resulted President, Mr. 0. Arrowsmith; vice-presidents, Messrs. Turley and A. G. Welch; secretary, Mr. L. F. brown for the active, support of the chamber and financial assistance in staging a Franklin court at the next Auckland Winter Exhibition were referred to the executive for favourable consid oration.
