MEASURES OF PROGRESS. EXTENDED TELEPHONE HOURS. fli Y TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. 1 TE KAUWIIATA, Wednesday. Since tho erection of the new post office at To Kauwhata two and a-half years ago, the number of subscribers to the Te Kauwhata telephone exchange has increased from 60 to 110. This has meant extended telephone hours, and, starting this week, tho exchange is now open from 7 until 11 p.m each day. Tho hours on Sundays are from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., and from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., and on public holidays 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. A further 25 subscribers are being connected to the exchange.

The constitution of a town district at To Kauwhata .has been approver!, and a town board is to operate as from April 1, 1529.

A local firm proposes to erect new pre mises at To Kauwhata in brick. Tenders are now being invited, and a structure which will considerably enhance the appearance of the main street is expected to be built.
