OBITUARY.
MR. JOHN TUNBRIDGE. Australian Press Association—United Sorvico LONDON. Oct. 7. Tho death has occurred of Alderman John Tunhridgo, formerly Commissioner of Polico in Now Zealand. Mr. Tunhridgo arrested Neil Cretin, a notorious murderer, at Buenos Aires. , The lalo Mr. John Tunhridgo came to Now Zealand from London in 1898 and succeeded Colonel Ilutno as Commissioner of Police. Prior to that lie had been superintendent of tho Criminal Investigation Department,, London, l'n New Zealand Mr. Tunhridgo introduced several reforms in the polico service and in 1899 took part in tho proceedings of tho commission which investigated tho management of tho force. It was Mr. Tunbridge who instituted tho Polico Provident Fund. When ho loft New Zealand ho returned to his homo in Sussex, England.
