DRAMA AT PAPER MILLS.' SYDNEY SUBURBAN LOSS. MORE DAMAGE AT WOY WOY. (Received October 8, 8.1!8 p.m.) SYDNEY. Oct. 8. Between 200 and 300 men and women have been rendered idle by the paper mills' fire at Lane Cove. The flames died out in a lurid blaze of greenish yellow flames Into in the evening when they had reached a building in which chlorine, sulphuric acid and other chemicals were stored. There was a series of brilliant explosions and the shed collapsed. The firemen in the vicinity found themselves unable to sec owing to the effect on their eyes of the liberated chlorine gas. City fire-engines were taken up the river on punts and used to assist in the losing battle against the flames. A fire occurred to-day at Ci'emorno, a suburb on tho North Shoro. A block of shops was destroyed. The estimated damage is £IO,OOO. Tho long-continued heat wave had caused a shortage of water and this handicapped tho firemen. Further cottages were destroyed by tho fire at Woy Woy, bringing the total to 45. Reports to hand to-day stato that many pcoplo were injured, but there were no deaths. REBUILDING SCHEME.
