BY- MENTOR. Racing will open with the Normanby Handicap, which has attracted a fino field of 17. Royal Lineage, Modest Boy, Arikitoa and War Officer nil raced well yesterday, and of the others Sir Russell and Eager Roso may bo tho best. Form suggests that Royal Linage, Modest Boy and War Officer may find most favour. Nucleus a.nd Royal Form will bo fresh horses in the Manukau Hurdles, in which Siaosi and Kawini appeal on first day's running. In an even pool, Kawini. Siaosi and Royal Form may all have big followings. . Another fine field remains in tho Epßom I Handicap, nnd among the fancies will be Paganelli, Hoariri, Benzora, Oration, Nancy Lee. Gold Money and Prince Otto. If rain comes Hoariri should be the prime fancy, but on a firm track Paganelli. Gold Money and Benzoin may head the quotations. Nineteen is a great acceptance for the King "Edward Memorial Handicap, which should be a fine contest. Star Stranger, Mask, Valkon, Catkin, Desert Glow, Goshawk and ißoyal Mint are a likely lot to carry the money, and, with fine conditions, these may bei narrowed down to Star Stranger, Valkon and Catkin, with tho lastnamed and Roval Mint in favour if it should rain. Class i 3 not strongly represented in the Onehunga Steeplechase, and the toprweight division, Potoanui, Handy and Uralla should provide tho favourite. Tho only winner in the Musket Stakes is Flying Prir.ce, but First Money may be preferred to him and Lady Suzanne. Yesterday's form may result in Golden Wedding being a good favourite for tho Hobson Handicap, and others with chances aro Micrometer, Mountain Guide, Metellua and Restaurant. Micrometer and Metelluu may follow Golden Wedding in tho betting. Tho Liverpool Handicap will provido backers with a very hard problem for tho last. Branson, Corinax, Flying Juliet, Goshawk, Kto::my, Hydo Park, Tho Fox and White Wings form a list that docs not exhaust the possibilities, and in a great betting medium Goshawk, Hyde Park and Stormy tnuy supply th« favourite BARRIER PRACTICE. COMMENDATION SCHOOLED, After the last race at Ellerelio yesterday Commendation (L. G. Morris) was taken to tho barrier, in company with the two horses ridden by the clerks o[ tho course. At first he was disinclined to line-up, but a little discipline administered by the whips of t:rainer Goorgo Jones, tho assistant clerk of the course, and Morris caused him to mend his behaviour. Finally he stood up quietly to the tapes and Mr. O'Connor released them, to see him jump away in good style,, much to tho satisfaction of hia owner, Mr. W. H. Gaisford. v.ho was au interested spectator. Commendation is to race next at Masterton on Saturday, when he has tho steadier of 10.13 to carry. SEASON'S FIXTUXIES. ItACING.
