NOTES ON THE RACING. SUPREMACY'S EASY VICTORY. AVONDALE FORM FOLLOWED. Supremacy's runaway victory at Avondalo » fortnight ago was responsible f«r his "being m»de a very hot favourite for the Welcome Stakes. The good thing duly camo off. and backers wern in the best of humour Irom the outset, especially as tho second choice. Hunting Day. filled second position and paid more than tho winner. Clever ■was almost as well backed as Hunting Day. First Money was badly left. Supremacy and Hunting Day being quickest to begin. Supremacy had assumed the load at the halfmile post from Hunting Day, Clever, Eaglet, Carl Idem and Ceremony. They raced in this order to tho entrance to tho straight, where First Money was in fifth place behind Eaglet. Supremacy had no difficulty in holding his position and no ran in a comfortable winner by two lengths from Hunting Day. with Eaglet third, after whom came Clever, First Money and Ceremony, with CarTldem last, a good way back. • Investors went on Avondalo form again in the Gordon Handicap, when tho.v made Arikitoa favourite. Modest Boy, who had also run well at- Avondale, was second choice, with a good drop to Royal Lineage. "Winsome Boy, Modest Boy arid 'lea Liidy wero first to show out. Micrometer was in charge along tho back from Lunette. Royal Lineage, Modest Boy. Wirisorno Boy, War Officer and Killute. Royal Lineage had run to the front round tho top. his nearest attendants being Arikitoa. Lunette. Modest Boy, Winsomo Boy, Respirator, Tea Lady, Micrometer, and Golden Wedding. There was little change in. this order as they turned for homo. Golden Wedding put in a Croat run in tho straight, and was in front i just before tho post was reached. Royal Liaeago came strongly again, howover. and i tho judge awardod a dead-heat. Arikitoa ■was a length away, third, followed by War I Officer and Modest Boy practically together. I Lunette. Micrometer, Killute and Muster Lu I .were next to finish. ( The fclying Handicap was a great betting ( lace.
