MAIJNGAKIEKIE CLUB. BALLIN CUP COMPETITION'. The F. S. Bn 11 iii Handicap Cup competition will commence at the Maungakiekie Gilf Club's links on Saturday. Tho conditions a:ro IS-holes medal handicap, 32 to qualify, and thereafter match play; The winner will hold the cup for one year and will aliio receive a miniature. Entries will closo to-morrow, and the draw for tho qualifying round will bo published on Friday. The semi-final of the C grade championship, played at Ows Tree Hill by members of tho Maungakiekie Golf Club, resulted in a win for L. Knight, who beat R. W. Vcrry by i and 2 after a good game. There was a good entry for the bogoy handicap. A tie resulted for first placo botwee i C. M. Ring (8), J. S. Rankin (9) and H, 11. Worslcy (9), with cards of 2 lip. The topiu of conversation among golfers at present is tho New Zealand championship tournament which opens at Bnlmacuwan links on Friday morning. Indications point to tho tournament being highly successful. Competitors have already commenced to arrive. Among them are Sloan Morpeth, holder of the amateur championship, who 13 reported to bo showing form that promises well for his play during the tournament: A. O. Sime, who won the amateur championship in 1921, and who recently won the Wcßt Coast championship; T. H. Horton, amateur champion in 1925; J. Duncan and Morgan Duncan. A. J. Shaw, winner of the open championship in 1920. E S. Douglas, winner of tho open championship at Dunedin in 1913. and o number of other professionals have also arrived. The course looks very well but unless rain falls before Friday the greens will be very hard when the championships commence.
