ONEHUNGA RESERVE.
PATRIOTIC GRANT DOUBLED. A report from Mr. I?. G. Speight, chairman of the Reserves Committeo, that he had waited upon the Auckland Patriotic Association and had been successful in obtaining a verbal promise of a second grant of £SOO toward the cost of laying out the Recreation Reserve, was presented by Mr. R. G. Speight at a meeting of the Onehunga Borough Council last evening. Although this would also receive tho Government subsidy of pound for pound, he suggested application should be made to tho various sports bodies for donations toward the work, as tho council had not received the full amount originally, promised, and would therefore bo unablo to carry out tho complete programme. Tho council adopted this course. It is intended to keep on for a full fortnight tho 30 men who havo already been working during tho past week. A fresh batch of men will then take their places.. The district engineer of Public Work 3 wrote stating a pound for pound subsidy up to £2037 had been approved for tho relief of unemployed ex-soldiers.
