BOWLERS RETURN.

SUCCESSFUL TOUR ABROAD. VICTORY OVER SCOTLAND. CANADIAN VISIT EXPECTED. Loud in their praises of British and American hospitality, 18 members of the party of New Zealand bowlers, which recently toured the British Isles, the Continent. Canada and the United States, returned to New Zealand by the Niagara yesterday. Some members of the team are piaying matches in California and will catch the next mail boat to Wellington. Those who returned yesterday were mi amnions in saying that both from tho playing and social viewpoints the tour was as great a success as possible. At the opening they found the greens very heavy. In many cases the grass was almost impossibly long, and they had difficulty in adapting their style of play to the new i, conditions. Later in the tour the greens became faster and the team was far mor.» successful. All were pleased with the success of the team in tho te.st match against Scotland. "That was the feather in our cap for tho tour," said Mr. R. Eagleton, the. l'oeky Nook bowler. "To beat Scotland in Scotland is a somewhat difficult feat., and wo wcro more than pleased that we achieved it." The team mot with wonderful hospitality wherever it went, Mr. Eagleton said. In all parts of the United Kingdom a royal welcome was g.vcn. Mayoral receptions and banquets w?re showered on the team, and at times tho members wondered when they were going to find time to play bowls. In Amurica, too, the hospitality had been wonderful. Several games played during tho trip through the United States and Canada were greatly enjoyed. It was hoped a Canadian bowling team would be abh> to visit New Zealand in the near future. The returning bowlers were welcomed on tho wharf by Mr. S. Coldicutt, president of tho Auckland Bowling Centre, and many bowlers. In tho afternoon several of them took part in games at tho Epsom green with Sir Joseph Cnrruthcrs and other passenngers on the Niagara. Those of the party who do not live in Auckland left for their homes in tho South by train last evening.
