When tho championship tournament organised by the Hamilton Ladies' Golf Club was commenced on St. Andrews links to-day, tho sky was overcast, and a strong north westerly breeze was blowing. There were 130 competitors, including Miss Chrystall, winner of tho New Zealand ladies' championship at Auckland last week. Miss Chrystall did not enter for tho Ellis Cup, the principal event. The arrangements to-day were conducted in a most capahlo manner, the competitors were despatched to time and all records were accurately checked. The best score to-day was returned by Miss Chrystall with a record of BL. Her card read: —Out: 3 5 4 5 5 4 7 4 4—41. In: S 5 5 4 3 6 4 4 4—40. Miss Cleeson (Rotorua) did the round in 88, but had tho misfortune to play a wrong ball and was consequently disqualified. Tho sixteen who qualified for the lilbs Cup competition were:—Miss 0. Kay (Dunedin), 86; Miss Gaisford (Marton), S6; Miss Acheson (Nelson), 87; Miss Culling (Auckland), 88; Mrs. Milroy (Hamilton), 89; Miss Masters (Hamilton), 89; Mrs. Sleo (Westport), 89; Mrs. Hosking (Auckland), 89; Miss Wilkinson (Hamilton), 90; Mrs. J. Wilson (Auckland), 91; Miss McNaughton (Morrinsville), 91; Miss N. Beverley (Matamata), 92; Miss Rathhono (Auckland). 92; Miss Buddie (Auckland), 92; Mrs. Wander (Hamilton), 92; Miss Brewster (New Plymouth), 92. Tho first round of the Ellis Cup resulted:—Miss Kay beat Miss Buddie, 6 nnd 5; Mrs. Hosking beat Miss Wilkinson, 4 and 3; Miss Culling beat Miss Rathbone, 2 and 1; Mrs. Sloe beat Miss Beverley, 2 and 1; -Miss McNaughton beat Miss Masters, 2 and 1; Miss Acheson beat Mrs. Mander, 4 nnd 3; Mrs. Wilson beat Mrs. Milroy, at the 19th; Miss Brewster beat Miss Gaisford, 3 and 2. Other players who returned cards in the qualifying round were:—Miss D. Iforton, 93; Mrs. Richter, 93; Mrs. Beattie, 93; Mrs. K. Browne, 93; Mrs. Ferguson, 94; Mrs. McMillan, 94; Miss Cornaga, 95; Miss K. Horton, 96; Mrs. A. McPiarmid, 96; Mrs. Parata, 97; Miss McKetizie, 97; Mrs. O'Lcary, 97; Miss I. Graham, 98; Mrs. Abbott, 98; Mrs. Buddie, 99; Miss Smith, 99; Mrs. Bartlett, 99; Miss E. Robinson, 99; Mrs. M. Dickey, 99; Miss Wallace, 101; Mrs. Teasdale, 101. Tho morning silver medal handicap was won by Miss J. Masters, a young Hamilton player, with a handicap of 16, whose gross card of 89 gave her a net score of 73 for tho round. Miss McNaughton, 91, 17—74, was runner-up in this competition. Other cards were: —Mrs. Miiroy, 89, 12—77; Mrs. K. Browne, 93, 15 —78; Miss Buddie, 92, 13—79; Mrs. McMillan, 94, 15—79; and Miss Cornaga, 95, 16—79. Miss J. Easton was the winner of the bronze medal handicap, with a score of 99, 26—73. Two bogey handicaps weie played this afternoon. Tho senior match was won by Miss Wallace, 1 up. Miss D. Horton was all square and Misses V. Russell and Given were 2 down. The junior match was won by Mrs. Chamberlain, 1 down. Misses Primrose and K. Oliver were 2 down. In the putting competition Mrs. W. J. King and Miss Brewster tied for first place and Miss Scott was second.
