TAXI "WAR" ENDED.

NORMAL FARES RETURN. PARTIES REACH AGREEMENT. Commencing from to-day the taxicab rates of the three organised Auckland companies will revert to the original prices introduced by the Checker Company. The decision, following nn agreement reached by all parties, marks the conclusion of the recent "rate war." The cars affected are the Checker, Black and White, Blue and White cabs. A conference of company representatives was held last week, following the arrival from Wellington of Mr. R. W. McViily, chairman of directors of the Black and White Company. The other companies were represented by Messrs. T. A. Low and P. Free, of the Checker Taxicab Company, Ltd., and Messrs. F. C. Buddie and E. C. Johnston, of Blue Taxis, Ltd., which also controls the White taxis. A complete agreement was reached as to the fares, which will bring Auckland and Wellington into line. The new rate will be Is 3d for tho first third of a mile and 6d for each additional third of a mile. Waiting time will bo charged at tho rate of 6d for each fivo minutes. Prj,or to tho "rate war" the initial charge was Is 6d. During the "war" tho price charged was approximately two-thirds of the higher rate. Both Mr. Freo and Mr. McVilly said yesterday it was impossible to maintain nn efficient, thorough service to the public on the rates charged during tho "war."
