IDENTITY ESTABLISHED. RESIDENT OF PAPAMOA. ABANDONED MOTOR-CAR FOUND. Investigations made Ly the police havo established the identity of the girl found dead in the scrub near the Knox Home at Panmure on Friday evening as Miss Elsie Walker, aged 18, who until Monday resided with her aunt, Mrs. Frank Bayly, at Paparnoa, near Tauranga. A motor-car, belonging to Mr. Bayly, was found abandoned about seven miles from the old quarry where the body of the girl was found. Doctors arc unable to give an opinion yet as to the cause of death. Dr. D. N. W. Murray, who made a post mortem examination of the body, has not completed his report and is awaiting the report of the analyst. Simultaneous with the disappearance of Miss Walker from her aunt's homo in the Bay of Plenty, about 8.30 on Monday morning, was the disappearance of the five-seater car. Six gallons of petrol were in the tank of the car before it was missed, but when it was found on Tuesday the tank was empty. Detectives are convinced from the wheel marks of the car that the car was driven away from Mr. Bayly s place in the direction ol' Rotorua. It is thought the car may have been driven to Auckland via Rotorua, or through Waihi and Paeroa. About two o'clock Oil luesday afternoon the car was recovered at Papatoetoe. Apparently Miss Walker walked seven miles to the scoria paddock, 200 yds. off College Road. Panmure, where her body was found. She had travelled from her home wearing a man's overcoat and rubber shoes. It is stated she was not worried and had been in good health.
