THE DIOCESAN SYNOD. SESSION OPENS THURSDAY. PROGRAMME TO OCCUPY WEEK. Tho Auckland Diocesan Synod will be opened at St. Mary's Cathedral on Thursday morning, Archbishop Averill presiding. The meetings wilf be continued on Friday, and various functions and conferences will keep the delegates busy until the following Tuesday. Preceding the opening of synod will be tho annual meeting of the Board of Missions, which will be held to-morrow. The proceedings will commence with Holy Communion at the cathedral at 7.30 a.m. Evensong will bo held at tho Church of tho Holy Sepulchre at 5 p.m.. when tho Ruv. W. Averill will deliver an address, to be followed by tea in the parish hall. Tho business meeting will bo held in tho parish hall at 7.30 p.m., Archbishop Averill presiding. Tho principal speaker will be the Bishop of Christchurch, Dr. C. West-Watson, and a short lecturo on Northern China will be given by Miss K. Hall, of Pemng. Preliminary services in connection with synod will be held on Wednesday, concluding with evensong at the cathedral, when Archbishop Averill will deliver a portion of Lis charge. Tho clerical members of synod attending this service will bo robed. Members will assemble at the cathedral at 10.30 a.m. on Thursday for roll-call. Synod will then be constituted and tho archbishop will deliver the remainder of his charge. There will bo an adjournment until A p.m., when a commencement will be made with the transaction of business. Synod will resume at 7.30 p.m. On Friday morning tho lay members will hold a conference in the synod hall, innd will afterwards be the guests of tho archbishop and Airs. Averill to lunch at Bisnopscourt library. Business will bo conducted in tho afternoon and again that evening. There will be no meeting on Saturday, but St. John's College Association will meet in tho morning, and an At Home will be held at Bishopscourt in ttio afternoon. Special service's will bo held at the cathedral on Sunday, the Rev Edgar Ward, vicar of Kaitaia, preaching in the morning, and the Bishop of Christchurch in the evening. On Tuesday morning there will be a conference of clergy, who will afterwards bo entertained at lunch by Archbishop and Mrs. Averill. Members of Synod have been invited by tho ladies of tlio Auckland parishes to take tea every evening in Bishopscourt library. Evensong will follow in the cathedral at 7 p.m. There will bo a celobration of Holy Communion at the cathedral earn synod day at 7.30 a.m., with the exception of tho opening day, followed by matins at 9.30.
