BOYS STEAL BICYCLES.
SYSTEMATIC OFFENCES. MAGISTRATE ORDERS THRASHING. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. f| CHRISTCHURCH, Sunday. Two boys, who admitted the systematic stealing of bicycles, spare parts and accessories, were yesterday committed to the supervision of the child welfare officer for two years and ordered to receivo a good thrashing. There were eight charges against the boys, covering the period between March and September of this year. Chief-Detective Carroll said the lads worked together. They had committed the thefts at night when returning from night school. All the stolen property had been recovered except one bicycle, valued at £5. Both the boys came from good homes and had very respectablo parents. "It is rather distressing to see boys who have been well broght up launching 'out like this," said the magistrate, Mr. II P. Lawry. "It is so systematic. That is the bad featuro of it all. If they had been older they would have gone into an inslitiition, but 1 do not want to send them there. I think the best thing for them would be a good hiding." The boys' parents said they were agreeable to "the boys receiving a thrashing.
