THREE PLANES CRASH.
THRILL FOR LONDON CROWDS PARACHUTE SAVES PILOT. Australian avid Ts.Z. Press Association. LONDON, Aug. 16. The Royal Air Force manoeuvres came to an exciting conclusion this evening when three planes crashed in various parts of London. The first was a singleseater which descended in flames between Ivew and Richmond. To the consternation of the watching crowds black smoke was seen to be issuing from the plane. Then the pilot jumped out and fell like a stone for a considerable distance, when his parachute opened and he landed safely on a roof. The plane crashed in flames and was burnt out.
Other planes with it turned and hovered over the spot until the commander, realising that his colleague was safe, flew away to his allotted part in the defence. A largo bomber which was carrying out a raid at Kidbrookc, in Essex, mado a forced landing in a field, owing to broken oil pipe. The observer was not hurt. The third machine crashed on Canvey Islands. Its two occupants escaped injury.
