ITALIAN CONSUL ATTACKED
SCENE IN YUGOSLAV TOWN.
ABUSIVE SERBIAN STUDENTS.
DIPLOMATIC ACTION TAKEN. Australian Press Association—United Service ROME, Aupr. 10. Serbian students at Spalato, a, \ugoslavian port, on the Adriatic Sea, attacked tho Italian consul. They armed themselves with chairs taken from a cafe. The consul, who was accompanied by the vice-consul and several other Italian friends, was seated outside a cafe when a band of youths began to abuse Italy. Disorder- followed and the consul received a blow on the arm from a chair.
The police intervened, but later when the consul and his friends were moving towards their motor-car the demonstrators again surrounded them and endeavoured to assault them. The police charged and several rioters were injured. It is stated that one policeman fired on the mob.
The Italian Minister to Belgrade lias been instructed to formally protest to the Yugoslav Government and to demand reparation.
