INDIAN LABOUR UNREST
RAILWAY WORKERS STRIKE. COTTON MILLS STILL IDLE. (Received August 17, 11.35 p.m.) United Service. DELHI, Aug. 17. There is still much unrest among Indian workers. Four thousand men at the Lallaguda workshop of the Nizam of Hyderabad's guaranteed State railway declared a lightning strike. The directors of the great Tata steel works at Jamshedpur sent an ultimatum to the men to return by August 20 otherwise new hands would be engaged. Negotiations at Bombay between the Government, the cotton mill owners and the strikers broke down over the question of the resumption of work prior to an inquiry into wages.
