MILLING WHEAT LIFELESS. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN COIt RESPONDENT. ] DUNEDIN, Friday. The milling wheat market continues in a lifeless condition. There are some hold-, ers of wheat in the country waiting for 'higher ' prices, but on the other hand ■millers • ar& not .interested in the market, as most ,of them still have good stocks. It is quite clear that there will be a carry-over of wheat to next season. Few sales of milling wheat have been recorded during the week. Tuscan is nominally quoted at ss' 6d to 5s Bd. The demand for fowl wheat remains poor, with plentiful stocks "in the stores. Best quality is worth locally 5s 9d per bushel, sacks extra, ex store. There have been some inquiries for oats during the week and sales have been recorded at 3s lOj-d f.0.b., s.i., for A's and 3s 5d for B's. This price shows a reduction on the rates that have been ruling. There are still fairly-large quantities in the South Island stores. Few lines are being shipped to the North Island. The demand for seed oats is disappointing. 'Consignments of chaff have, eased off, but there are fairly large quantities held in the stores—-quite sufficient to meet the weak demand. , Good quality .is selling at £5 10s per ton. ■ Most of the Ota go potatoes have been sold,- but Canterbury is keeping the local market well supplied. Best quality is worth £6 jier ton. • The seed market; remains, unchanged.

MARKET REPORTS. FRUIT AND PRODUCE PRICES. American grapes are shortly due to arrive at the Auckland City Markets, and may bo expected in about two weeks. Demand for apples at. the local sales is'still only moderate. Really good quality Delicious are, " however, fetching slightly higher values to sell at 6s to 9s. Most lines of dessert pears are coming out of cool store in bad condition, and th'o prices for the better grades are somewhat higher. Tree tomatoes were not on sale at yesterday's sales. Cook Island tomatoes are selling at low rales, about 2s cheaper than at the last sales. Island oranges at ruling rates are in good demand. In the field produce section, prices for new potatoes show a rising tendency, selling at up to 6d per lb. There are slight variations in the prices of other lines. Spring onions are somewhat cheaper. Swedes are rather dearer. The market was heavily supplied with kumaras, cauliflowers, and most-other-.lines of vegetables, and demand was in most instances keen. A medium supply of birds came forward at the poultry sales. There was a keen demand for prime cockerels, young drakes and fat hens. Laying birds, such as pullets and ducks, have fallen in price. In dav-old chicks, Black Orpingtons are somewhat dearer, but White Leghorns are a little, cheaper'than at last week's sales. Most varieties of. dairy produce have increased in price, hen and ducks eggs all being about one penny a dozen dearer. • ■ fruit., Apples, Stunners, (is to 8s a case; poor quality, Ss: to ss'; Delicious, 6s to 9s; Ballarats, 4s to .7s; Doughertys. 3s to 6s; Granny > Smiths. 10a to 12s: Munroes, 6s to 7s- 6cl; pears, Nelis and Coles, 6s to lis : tomatoes.'lsland, -Is "to'6s; oramges,'lsland, repacks, 14s to 16s; Navels,, lis to 14s 6d: Poormaris.' 4s to 6s; banamas, repacks, 22a to.- 265; 'mandarins, 12s to , 14s; lemons, 8s to lis • -■ FIELD .PRODUCE.
