The standing committee appointed by the Board of Trade under the Merchandise Marks Act has reported on the inquiry held to consider whether imported cutlery .should be required to bear an indication of its origin. The committee recommends that the various classes of imported cutlery should bear an indication of their origin. These classes include knives other than snrgical knives or knives for use in machines, scissors, razors other than safety razors, carving forks, knife sharpeners and safety razor blades. NEW LAUNDRY SCHEME. A start has been made with the erection of the first portion of tho new premises for Auckland Laundry, Limited, at Surrey Crescent, Grey Lynn. It is expected they will be ready for use by next January. The tender for the building was secured by Mr. P. W. Peate, and the architect is Mr. Basil W. Croker. Tho plans provide for a modern building constructed of reinforced concrete and structural steel framing. When completed the plant will be one of the largest and most up-to-date in the Southern Hemisphere. LONDON TALLOW SALES. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, has received tho following advice from its London office, dated August 15:—Tallow, C.I.F. and E.~Fine mutton, 43;; 6d per cwt.; good beef, 435; mixed, , 40s.
