WEEK-END WEATHER. HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST. The- following weather forecast for- 48 hours from 7 a.m. to-day was supplied to us by Mr. H. M. Vincent last evening: —A temporary improvement .in the weather is expected, jnainly fair to fine weather prevailing during the next 36 to 48 hours, with the exception of an occasional shower in districts bordering.on the west coast, and in southern areas. Variable and moderate breezes, southerly to southwesterly prevailing, giving place shortly to northerly and north-easterly winds, moderate to strong, and freshening. Seas smooth to moderate. Cold night temperatures, but becoming milder. The recent disturbance is passing eastward, and there is a prospect of chiefly fine weather ruling over most of the Dominion during the week. A new disturbance is developing on the south-west Tasman Sea, and a renewal of unsottled conditions is expected at the beginning of the week. Barometer, midnight, rising .. 29.80 in. Midnight, Thursday .. ... 29.65 in. GOVERNMENT REPORT. The Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows Pressure variations over the Dominion are slight. A moderate depression is advancing across the south Tasman Sea, while a slight anti-cyclone covers the- northern portion. Indications are for moderate to strong winds, with northerlies prevailing south of Westport and Akaroa, elsewhere southerly winds veering later to northerlies. .Ilough seas on .the.east coast south of Castlcpoint but moderating; elsowhero smooth to moderating seas. Moderate to strong south-west to north-west winds and moderate to rather rough seas in the eastern Tasman Sea. Weather showery on the west coast of the South Island and in the far south; some showers also at first on parts of the east coast north of Akaroa, but improving, elsewhere mainly fair.
