REGISTRATION OF ELECTORS.

POWERS OP PARTIES' AGENTS. [by telegraph.—special reporter.] WELLINGTON, Friday. To facilitate the work of political and licensing organisations, registrars of electors have been instructed that accredited agents of these bodies may be given authority under the Electoral Act to witness the signatures of persons applying for registration as efectors. In making an announcement to this effect to-day, the Chief Electoral Officer, Mr. G. G. Ilodgkins, said in many instances agents were required to work in more than one electoral district, and if they had authority to witness signatures in the districts in which they were employed their work would bo facilitated. If the privilege were abused by any organisation the authority would bo immediately cancelled. "Jn certain cities and boroughs where street numbers have been altered by the municipal authorities," added Mr. IJodgkins, "it has been found necessary to make many adjustments to tho rolls, for which purpose letter carriers, by reason of their local knowledge, have been employed. The Electoral Department, is not employing clerks to collect applications for enrolment."
