MR. "ROWLEY" HILL.

A NOTABLE ANNiVERSARY. Auckland's oldest veteran, Mr. George Sill, N.Z.C., who is known to his intimates as "Rowley," celebrated on Sunday the 77th anniversary of his joining the Royal Navy. Mr. Hill is in his 91st year and still finds zest in life. Ho went to sea at an early age_, joining the navy in 1851 after expedience in coal brigs. He served at the bombardment of Sebastopol in the Crimean War, later during "temporary absence" served under Garibaldi and before coming to New Zealand where he fought in Von Tempsky's Forest Rangers, served in the Naval Brigade in India, being present at the relief oj Lucknow and at Delhi.

The old campaigner is held in high regard by the "young veterans," one of whom, Lieutenant Judson, V.C., N.Z.S.C., last week presented him with a souvenir in the shape of a German bomb.
