GREAT RUSH TO CANADA. APPLICATION LISTS CLOSED. (Received August 33, 9.5 p.m.) British "\Vireles3. RUGBY, Aug. 12. The Ministry of Labour announces that the rush of unemployed men to enrol for harvest work in Canada under the Government's scheme has been remarkable. Up to yesterday evening about 25,000 had applied. Allowing for rejections as a result of civil'and medical examinations this number will be sufficient to fill the quota of 10,000 men required. Accordingly the employment exchanges have been instructed to close their lists to further applicants. The Canadian Government expressed a wish that the men should be recruited from the mining areas. Tho large majority of the applications have come from tho distressed areas of northern England, Scotland and Wales. A total of 3000 of the 10,000 men required will be on their ,way to Canada at the coming week-end. The generally declared intention of the Bien is to remain in Canada after the hardest, if they can find work there.
