PROGRESS OF TE KAWA.
NEW PUBLIC HALL OPENED. Residents of Te Kawa, a township midway between Te Awamutu and Otorohanga, and the nearest railway station to the Kawhia district, celebrated an im-port-ant event on Tuesday evening, when the new town hall was formally opened, free of debt, by Mr D. Stewart Reid, M.P. for Waikato. The building, which is 55ft. long and 30ft. wide, was effectively decorated and illuminated for the occasion. There was a very large crowd, including visitors from all the neighbouring districts Mr. Reid congratulated Te Kawa upon its achievement. Few districts had been able to provide such a commodious hall free of debt. He congratulated the sottiers, especially the Sports Club (which body had undertaken the project). After the hall had been declared open dancing was indulged in.
