FATALITY AT HAWERA.
EXPRESS STRIKES WAGGON.
FARMER DIES FROM INJURIES.

The iovel railway crossing close to Hawera station was tho scene of a fatal accident at about six o'clock last evening, when the express train from Wellington collided with a horse-drawn waggon driven by Mr. George Appleyard, a farmor living on the outskirts of tho town. Mr. Appleyard was severely injured and dicifl hoforo reaching the hospital. One of tho horses was slightly injured, but t.lio other one broko away when tho engine struck tho waggon. Tho waggon was wrecked and piled up on the cattlestop.

A collision occurred at the Colombo Street railway crossing last evening, between a motor-car and a shunting engine. The fore part of the motor was badly damaged and tho windscreen smashed, hut tho occupants, of whom thoro wero four, escaped injury. The d\'iver of tho car said he saw the crossing-keeper's signal, but his brakes slipped and tho car had sufficient momentum to carry it on to the line.
