"GREAT" DRIVE PLANNED.

RELIEF OF DISTRESS, CAMPAIGN BY TRAVELLERS. At least 350 motor-cars and 1000 men will take part in the clothes and cash drive to assist the needy of the city, which is being organised by the Auckland Commercial Travellers and Warehousemen's Association. The day fixed for the drive is Saturday, July 14, and no effort is being spared to make it a complete success, To discuss arrangements, representatives of various charitable organisations and social workers met members of the association yesterday afternoon. Among those present were the Rev. Jasper Calder, Sister Esther, Sister Hanna and Major Annie Gordon.

Mr. W. H. Prentis, president of the association, said it was regrettable that the present state of affairs necessitated such a meeting, but it was a pleasure to see such a ready response to the call. It was proposed to complete the campaign at 1 p.m. on the Saturday, In addition to members of the association, Boy Scouts had offered their help, which had gladly been accepted. The defence authorities would give the use of the drill hall in Eutland Street as a central depot and the health authorities had agreed to fumigate all the clothes as they arrived. Continuing, Mr. Prentis said all he required of charitable organisations was for members to be present at the drill hall on Monday, July 16, to commence sorting and distributing the collected articles. People who could not see their way to give clothes were invited to make money donations, which would be collected under strict supervision.

Mr. A. Thompsou pointed out the necessity for parcels to be ready on the day of the drive in order to save time.

Mr. R. Glover-Clark, vice-president of the association, said -the city, suburbs and North Shore would be covered, with Takapuna as the outlying point on the shore side and St. Heliers Bay, Ellerslie and Avondale on the city side. The whole of the area had been divided into sections and each one placed in charge of a captain. Fifty maps had been prepared, and attached to them were complete instructions. The ready response of members of the association had made the work comparatively easy.
