BANKRUPTCY MATTERS.

SUPREME COURT SITTING.

SEVERAL DISCHARGES GRANTED*

About 30 bankruptcy matters came before Mr. Justice MaeGregor in the Supreme Court yesterday. Many of the cases were either adjourned or withdrawn.

The application of Reginald Sawle, farmer, of Tamahere (Mr. Burt), for his discharge was opposed by Mr. Cocker on behalf of the petitioning creditor, R. Ivemp. Mr. Cocker said Sawle was adjudicated bankrupt in June, 1927. Judgment had been given against him for over £I6OO. The bankrupt had claimed that £734 had been owing by his wife to the partnership of which he was a member, but no explanation had been given by bankrupt hdw his wife became possessed of any money. Counsel asked that if a discharge was granted it should be granted subject to the entry of judgment against him for a substantial sum, such as £7OO. Mr. Burt strongly opposed any such condition. At one time an offer of £I3OO made to the petitioning creditor had been refused by liim, and the present position was due to his relentless attitude. The bankrupt was an elderly man and out of work at the present time. His Honor said he had no intention of entering; judgment against bankrupt. The onlv question was whether he should suspend discharge for a short period. The official assignee, Mr. G. N. Morns, said he could not see any ground for attacking the mortgage held by the bankrupt's wife. His Honor decided to grant the order of discharge without conditions. Motions for discharge from bankruptcy of the following were granted-Edward Roscoe. grocer, of Auckland; William Henry Clark, farmer, of Taipuha; Henry Cyril Greenwood, carrier, of Onahunga; Michael Devcich. contractor, of Waihou; Mrs H L. R. Jack, Silverdale; Walter Leslie Marshall, farmer, of Otahuhu; ana Percy Alfred Insley, farmer of Clevedon. A. S. Blackie, tourist agency manac, ;r, of Auckland, was adjudged bankrupt.
