DARING BURGLARY.
PIANO COMPANY'S PREMISES ENTRANCE WITH LADDER. REMOVAL OF GRAMOPHONE. MOTOR-CAR BELIEVED USED. Remarkable daring characterised the breaking and entering of the Bristol Piano Company's premises in Karangahape Road early yesterday morning. A cabinet gramophone, valued •at £4O. and several sound-boxes from other machines, and a number of spare parts, were stolen by thieves, who worked with thoroughness. Or. arriving at the office the employees found various rooms in disorder. It is suspected the stolen goods were taken away in a motor-car. The premises are part of an extensive block of buildings which abut on to a short lane. Immediately the crime was reported an investigation of the scene was made. Entrance had been gained through a high window, which had apparently been reached with the aid of a long ladder. Once the intruders had gained entrance, they could find their way down into the basement of the establishment and unlock doors leading out into the back of the building. There a motor-car could be drawn out of sight, and any quantity of goods removed from upstair rooms and carried to the waiting vehicle. It is considered it would be impossible for anyone to take away the cabinet gramophone without a vehicle of some sort. It is evident the window was opened by the thieves first smashing the glass and unfastening the catch. They then proceeded into the main portion of the shop. From there they moved down to the ground floor, from where they took the stolen articles away.
