IMPRISONED FOR FORGERY.
CASE AT WANGANUI. ACCUSED'S MANY OFFENCES. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. I WANGANUI. Sunday. The final chapter in a story of unusual incidents was written in the Supreme Court yesterday when Mr. Justice Reed sentenced John Edward Wcldon, alias H. A. Durant, to two years' imprisonment on each of three charges of forgery and uttering, and one of forgery, the terms to be concurrent, and declared him an habitual criminal. It was stated that Weldon came to Wanganui recently and made arrangements for the purchase of a house in an exclusive suburb. He then ordered furniture valued at £437, and instructed painters and carpenters to proceed with redecoration and alterations. He hired a taxi and evaded payment of the hire, and, it was stated, also neglected to pay the cost of a car, hired in New Plymouth, to drive him to Marton and back to Wanganui.
In delivering sentence His Honor read out a long list of offences against accused.
