ESCAPED PRISONER.
NINTH DAY OF LIBERTY. Detectives and policemen, drafted into shifts, and working in relays, are searching the thickly-wooded hills' on the North Shore for the escaped criminal, John Buckley, who has. been at large nine days to-day after a sensational escape from Mount Eden prison. Signs of the fugitive have been seen around Birkenhead, and the police authorities are having no little difficulty in keeping record of all the rumours that are current in the district. Attempts have been made by an intruder, suspected to be ilie wanted man, to steal from the homo of Mr. J. G. Yeoman, Chelsea, and the store of Mr. McGovern, Birkenhead. Food seems to be the object of the prowler. Up to a late hour last evening no arrest had been made.
