BANK OF ENGLAND RETURNS. COMPARISONS WITH LAST WEEK. Australian Press Association—United Service (Received Juno X, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, May 31. The Bank of England returns for the week ended May 31, as compared with those for the week ended May 24, are as follows:

SHORT LOANS AND BILLS. Short loans, per cent., same as las;t week; three months' hills, 3 29-32 per cent., compared with 4 1-32 per cent, last week. CONSOLS AND COLONIAL STOCKS. The following table gives quotations for consols and colonial inscribed stocks, compared with those of May 24:

The market is quiet, with less inquiry. 64's are quoted at 4s 6d per lb.; other j sorts are unchanged. P. AND 0. SHARES. P. and 0. deferred stock is quoted at £243. WHEAT, FLOUR AND PULSE. Wheat.—Cargoes continue idle and have dropped 6d to 9d. Parcels are in fair request at a decline of 3d to 6d. By an unnamed vessel at Manchester, 54s 6d. Liverpool futures: July, 10s 7|d per cental; October, 10s lOjd ; December, ■ 10s 10 7-Bd. Spot trade dull. Prices weaker. Australian, from ship, 57s 7d. Flour.—Tending to easier. Australian, ex store, 38s to 38s 6d. Oats.—Slow. Peas and Beans.—Steady. LONDON TALLOW MARKET. Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report having received the following cablegram from their London house, dated. Millers in the Otago district have not been keen to operate for wheat and it is now difficult to make sales at tlie rates which have ruled, namely, 5s 8d a bushel for Tuscan and 6s for Hunters. There is a decline in fowl wheat for shipment. Local fowl wheat is plentiful and the quotation is 5s 9d, sacks extra, ex store, for best, quality. The weakening of the oafs market is more pronounced and values have dropped 2d a bushel. Present values are:—A Gartons, 3s 4d a bushel, sacks extra, country sidings; B grade,.3s. Best quality chaff is worth 5s 5d to 5s lOd, sacks extra, ex truck, and medium and poor are hard to sell. The potato market is quiet and there are few sales. The current quotation is £5 5s per ton, sacks included, ex truck, with occasional sales at £5 10s. SOUTHERN EXCHANGES. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.]. WELLINGTON, Friday.
