STRUCK WITH TOMAHAWK.

MAN'S SERIOUS INJURIES. WOMAN AGAIN REMANDED. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION. ] DUNEDIN, Friday. Medical evidence was heard to-day in the Police Court in the case against Elsie Clara Babick, who is charged with having assaulted Charles Wilfred Waidren on May 18, so as to cause him actual bodily harm. It is alleged that the man was struck with a tomahawk. The medical evidence was that the man, when admitted to hospital, was suffering from a considerable degree of shock and loss of blood. Across his left ear was a cut about 4|in. in length, in the same direction with the line of' the eyes. The cut completely divided the ear above the canal leading into the skull, and extended for about an inch in. front of the ear, and about an inch behind. The cut divided the superficial temporal artery and opened the outer table of the skull. Had the wound not received early attention it might have proved fatal, owing to loss of blood. The wound was consistent with that which might be inflicted with an axe. Accused was further remanded for a week. The woman, whose name has been suppressed until now, is said to have walked into the North Dunedin police statiou at about four o'clock on the morning of May 18, and reported that she had attacked a man with an axe. The police found Waidren sitting on a bed which was saturated with his blood. Both Waidren and the accused are married, but have been living apart from their wife and husband respectively.
