OBITUARY.
MR. C. E. MONTAGUE. Australian Press Association—United Service LONDON. May 28. The death has occurred of Mr. C. E. I Montague, the well-known writer. I Mr. Charles Edward Montague was born in 1867. He was at the City of London School and Balliol, and joined the staff of the Manchester Guardian, and married Miss Madeline Scott, daughter the well-known editor of the Guardian, Mr. C. P. Scott. He became a leader writer and assistant editor. In the war he served in the Army from 1915-1919. Before that ho had written two or three books which attracted notice for their distinction of style and irony: " A Hind Let Loose " (1910), " Dramatic Values " (1911). His experience in the war led to two fine novels. Disenchantment " and "Rough Justice" (1926), one of the best of the after-war novels. Last year he published " Right Off the Map." He had retired from active journalism about two years ago. RAJAH OF PUDUKKOTTAI. Australian Press Association—United Service LONDON. May The death took place to-day at the American Hospital at Neuilly of the Rajah of Pudukkottai, aged 54, who bocame ill yesterday after he had arrived from London. MR. EDWARD DURNAN. Australian and N.Z. Press Association. TORONTO. May .28. The death occurred suddenly yesterday evening of Edward Durnan, the former professional sculling champion of America. DR. JAMES M ACM ILLAN. (Received May 29, 5.5 p.m.) SYDNEY. May 2^. The death has occurred at West Maitland, 120 miles north of Sydney, of Dr. James MacMillan, aged 63.
