WOMEN AND SMOKING.
Sir —1 notice in your issue of Saturday Miss Maude Koyden's farewell message expresses her admiration for the splendid women aud child welfare movement of New Zealand, which will include the Karitane homes and the Plunket Society s work for the preservation of the young life of this land. She wishes that they •may prosper. Some two or three weeks a medical man warned expectant mothers against the effect of nicotine poisoning on their children. Miss Royden inter alia, tells us that smoking has nothing to do with religion. Is not religion supposed to regulate our lives and actions? If it does not do that, of what use is it? While we thank Miss Royden for her good Wishes, the mother heart of New Zealand greatly deplores her example. Tinkling Cymbal.
