CHARGE AGAINST BARMAN.
ALLEGED ILLEGAL SALE. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT, J HAMILTON. Monday. Decision was reserved by Mr. F. W. Platts, S.M., in the Hamilton Magistrate's Court to-day in the case-in which William George Melton (Mr. N. Johnson), a barman, employed at the Commercial Hotel, was charged with supplying liquor after hours. Evidence was given by the police that defendant was seen supplying a number of men with liquor shortly before noon on Sunday, May 20, in an upstairs bar sitting room. Accused said lie had never served at the upstairs bar before. One of the men was a guest, and* he thought- the others were, too. The guest paid for the drinks. John Ready said he was a boarder at the hotel. He paid for one round of drinks, but denied that he had consumed any himself.
