DAVIS CUP CONTEST.

In the Davis Cup match at Kansas City between China and the United States China was defeated. In the singles Hennessey defeated Gordon Lum, 6—3, 6—l, 6—o, and Lott defeated N. G. Kong, 6—o, 6—o, 6 —o. In the doubles W. T. Tilden and W. F. Coen defeated Lum and Kong, 6—2, 6—l, 6—3. The new American Davis Cup team, which is the product of two months' reorganisation work under Tilden, played before a gallery of 1200 tennis enthusiasts, and met the test in a fashion to lead to the conviction that the United States has every likelihood of again competing against France for the final honours. ?lennessey easily defeated Lum in 50 minutes, and in 10 minutes less than that Lott, who is only 21, took 18 games in a row from Kong. Tilden says he is completely freed of all misgivings regarding the team. In the match at Montreal between Canada and Japan, Canada has lost two and won one game. In the singles W. F. Crocker, Canada, defeated tho Japanese captain, Toba, 6—o, 6—2, 4—6, 6—-3; Ohta (Japan) defeated J. Wright, 4—6, 6—4, I—6. 6—4, 6—l. In the doubles Toba and Tamio Abe defeated Wright and Ham, 5—7, 2—6, 6—3, 6—4, 10—8. MATCH AT COPENHAGEN. DENMARK LOSES TO- AUSTRIA. Australian Press Association—Ur.ited Service (Received May 28, 12.5 a.m.) COPENHAGEN, May 20. In the match between Denmark and Austria in the second round of tho Davis Cup contest, Austria won. Ulrich and Henrichsen (Denmark) defeated Salm and Artens (Austria), 7 —5, 6 —o, 11—9. Matterjka (Austria) defeated Peterson (Denmark), B—6, B—6, S—l, 2—6, 6—3; Artens (Austria) defeated Ulrich (Denmark), 6—4, 6—4, 3—6, 9—7. Austria finally won four matches to ono. ,•
