PLANE STRIKES CABLE.
AUSTRALIAN AIR RACE. PILOT SEVERELY INJURED. (Received May 27, 5.55 p.m.) MELBOURNE, May 27. A competitor in tho aerial Derby yesterday, Flight-Lieutenant A. G. Wells, who was in an Air Force De Havilland 9 machine, struck a high-tension electric cable, which tore off both the wings and then fused with a blinding flash. The machine crashed. Lieutenant Wells was badly injured, and may lose his eyesight. Kis forehead was crushed and his condition is critical.
