SPECTACULAR COLLISION.
MOTOR-CAR STRUCK BY TRAM. DRIVER ESCAPES UNINJURED. A spectacular collision occurred in Queen Street at eight o'clock on Saturday evening, when a sedan motor-car, driven by Mr. W. McKail Geddes, of Wynyard Street, was sandwiched between a tramcar and an overhead wire pole at the intersection of Fort Street. The impact was accompanied by a shower of sparks from the trolley-wire, and, although the car was crushed badly, Mr. Geddes emerged from the debris without injury. Mr. Geddes was turning across the raJs behind an inward-bound tram. Another tram on the outward track struck the motor-car broadside on. The crushing of the body of the car prevented an exit from the front doors, and Mr. Geddes climbed out from the rear compartment. The heavy iron base of the overhead wire pole was shattered by the frame of the motor-car. The control-gear of the tramcar was damaged, and the line was blocked for about 15 minutes.
