ENGLISH COUNTY CRICKET. RAIN INTERFERES WITH PLAY. Australian Press Association—United Service (Received May 26, 8.5 p.m.) LONDON, May 25. Rain interfered with the county cricket matches, and there was no play on the first day at Norwich, Northampton, Cambridge, Oxford, and for two days at tho Oval, where Surrey met Sussex. Against Oxford University Derbyshire, in the first innings, made 294; Bowden, 56; Tounsend, 52, not out; Mcintosh, four for 55 and Oxford University made 149 (Lee, five for 42). They followed on and made 123 for four. The match was drawn. Against Norfolk, the West Indies made 149 (Bemdsmore five for 37) and Norfolk made 123 for nine. The match was drawn. Against Middlesex, Worcestershire in the first innings made 225 and in the second, 17b (Jewell, 93; Hearne, five for 76); Middlesex made 436 for seven and declared (Lee, 143; Hearne, 51: Hendren, 101, not. out; Root, five for 129). Middlesex won by an innings and 35 runs. Against Kent, Gloucestershire, in" the first innings, made 174 (Freeman, five for 72) and in.the second, 239 (Sinfield, 61; Hammond, 6C). Kent made 479 for six and declared (Hardinge, 263, not out; Woolley, 107). Kent won by an innings and 66 runs. Against Yorkshire, Northamptonshire in the first innings made 164 (J. Timms, 70; Rhodes, five for 37) and in the second 50 for three. Yorkshire made 149 (Thomas, five for 41). Northamptonshire won on the first innings. Against Nottinghamshire, Cambridge University, in the first innings, made 117 (S. Staples, seven for 44) and in the second, 106 (Staples, five for 37). Notts, in the first innings, made 139 (Carr, 55; Blundell, six for 51) and in the second, 85 for three, and won by seven wickets. Against Surrey, Sussex made 139 for four and declared (Bowley, 52, not out). Surrey made 82 for two. The match was drawn and does not count for the chain pionship. NEW ZEALAND BOWLERS. DEFEAT OF BEDFORDSHIRE. Australian Press Association—United Service LONDON, May 25. The New Zealand bowlers defeated Bedfordshire by 130 points to 112. The winning skips were A. J. Parker, 26 to 13, J. Grant, 28 to 15, J. Carson, 24 to 19. HARD COURT TENNIS. PLAY IN CHAMPIONSHIPS. Australian Press Association—United Service (Received May 27, 5.35 p.m.) PARIS, May 2G. In the hard courts tennis championships in tho mixed doubles J. B. Hawkes and Miss Boyd defeated Borotra and Madame Bordes, 5—4, 5 —7, B—6. In the women's doubles, in tho semi-final Mademoiselle Deve and Madame La Faurie defeated Miss Betty Nut hall and Mrs. Lycett, 6 —3, 6 —3. In the women's singles, in the second round Miss Mills defeated Madame Margou, 6 —o, 6—3.
