TROTTING.
SEASON'S FIXTURES. June 2, 4—Canterbury Park Trotting j, me 4—Hawke's Bay Trotting Club. June 23, 27—Auckland Trotting Club. CANTERBURY GOSSIP. PERFORMERS AT AMBERLEY. [BY TKL.EGB.ArH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] CHRISTCHURCH. Sunday. Awaiti. who won the Kowai Trot nt Amberley, is a four-year-old by Logran Pointer from a King: Cole mare, so he is bred for stamina as well as speed. He is quite a novice, but he paced very evenly all the way, and stayed out the journey in very attractive style. Later on he should do still better. The two-year-old Grandlight, by Match, light from Our Aggie, looks like developing into a high pacer. He was second at Oamaru. and repeated tho performance at Amberley, where he was outstayed by a good maiden two years his 9enior. Grandlight is engaged in the Sapling Stakes, and he will prove a worthy representative of J. Biyce's stable. Danny Boy has been a very expensive horse to his army of admirers. After showing improved form at Ashburton and Oamaru he scored a win at Amberley. He gradually worked his way up to the leaders, and eventually won because he stayed better lhan his rivals. It was not a striking performance. however. The pacer Rey Logan is now being trained by J. Meachen at New Brighton. Nelson Price is working the pacer High Jinks in saddle. High Jinks gave promise of being a high-class pacer at one stage of his career, but ho has not trained on. The two-year-old Guy Denver, Guy Parrish— Leila Denver, is doing well in his woik. under the direction of his ownertrainer, J. N. Clarke. The youngster will be a starter in the Sapling Stakes at Ashburl on next month The two-year-old trotter by Sonoma — Harvester, in A. G. Wilson's stable, is furnishing into a powerful horse. He is not being hurried in his preparation, and he promises to race well in the new season. He is well mannered and shows a fair turn of speed No horse trained at New Brighton looks better than Firpo. The speedy miler is bowling along in his work in rare style. He is a little troublesome at the post, but once on the journey can go very fast. He seems to be better in saddle than in harness. Tamerlane lightened up considerably during his trip in the North Island, but the trotter is fast picking up again. Acron does not do a great deal of fast work in training. It is just possible) that the mile record hoWer may not get to the races again, as he appears to be unsound.
