INDUSTRIAL CONFERENCE.
ADDRESS TO TRADE UNIONS. The Auckland trades union delegates to the economic conference recently held in Wellington will report to a combined meeting of executives in tho Trades Hall this evening. The recommendations of the conference will be explained. It is pointed out in trade union circles that the term "optional arbitration" has bewildered many rank and file unionists. It is explained that the recommendations of the employers with respect to this matter mean th-'it, in the event of a failure at the conciliation council, the dispute would not be referred to the Arbitration Court unless both parties were agreed. It is rumoured that the recommendations with respect to optional arbitration will become law during next session, also the joint recommendations regarding the Compensation Act, which provides for full surgical and medical allowance as against the £1 allowance provided in the present Act.
