OBITUARY.

MRS. W. B. KYLE. The death occurred *lasfc week of a wellknown resident of Taranaki, Mrs. W. B. Kyle, of Waitara, aged 72. Mrs. Kyle was born at Brodick, Isle of Arran, Scotland, and arrived in New Zealand by tho ship Gainsborough in 1877 in company with her husband. After residing in turn at Wellington and New Plymouth, Mr. and Mrs. Kyle moved to Waitara 48 years ago. In addition to her husbaud, Mrs. Kyle is survived by a grown-up family of three sons, Messrs. R. Kyle, of California, W. A. Kyle, of New Plymouth, and N. A, Kyle, of Auckland, and five daughters, Mesdames T. W. Synnott, of Otaki, W. H. Bond, of Auckland, S. Letts, of Midhurst, G. H. T. Warner, of Sydnev, and J. C. Hall, of Wairoa, Hawke's Bay. The interment took place at Waitara last Wednesday. MR. LANCELOT D. NICOL. The death of Mr. Lancelot Douglas Nicol, aged 83, occurred at his residence in Mount Eden Road on Saturday. M". Nicol was formerly well known in Otago and Southland. Born at Woonend, Peebles, Scotland,, in 1845, he landed with his parents a% Port Chalmers by the ' sailing ship Three Bells in 1858. Mr. > Nicol was engaged in goldmining for a J time, working at Gabriel's Gully and the ; Shotover goldfield. In 1870 ho took up [ farming and acquired two extensive pro- ■ perties at Fortrose. Subsequently he was engaged in business in Dunedin, and " 20 years ago came to Auckland, wh6re he was well known as a wool-buy?r and exporter. He was a buyer of wool and skins for the Government during the war. He maintained a keen interest in business affairs in the city until a fewweeks ago, when his health began to faiL In 1872 Mr, Nicol married a daughter of Mr. John Tweedie, of Mataura. He is survived by his jwife and one son, Mr. J. B. Nicol, of Gore, and three daughter!;, Mrs. W. G. Somerville, of Te ' Kuiti, Mrs. Lanrenti, of Melbourne, and > Miss Nicol, of Mount Eden. The inter- ; ment took place at Waikumeto cemetery yesterday.
