HELPING THE SICK.
HOSPITAL AUXILIARY'S WORK OPENING OF THE CAMPAIGN. Help for the sick and needy of the city is to be solicited by the Auckland Hospital Auxiliary this week. A hospital week, the first effort of its kind in the Dominion, has been organised, and was opened yesterday when, in churches of all denominations, mention was made of the work of the auxiliary and help was invoked for its services to tho city. City picture theatres this everiiug will co-operato with the auxiliary in its appeal. To-morrow afternoon a reunion of trainees will be held at the hospital. In the evening tho chairman of the Auckland Hospital Board, Mr. W. Wallace, will broadcast an address and Dr. Bevan Brown will lecture on 'Bacterial Origin of Disease."- A series of lectures and visits to tho hospital by various organisations will be conducted during the week, and the effort will culminate on Friday, when a street collection will be made in aid of the funds of the auxiliary.. The campaign, which aims as much at interesting people in the work of the auxiliary as at securing practical assistance in the shape of donations, has been arranged by ■& special committee, with Mrs, C. H. Drysdale as secretary. A satisfactory response by the public to all requests is confidently expected.
