♦ CELEBRATION COMMENCES. RECEPTION TO VISITORS. [BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] CHRISTCHURCH. Saturday. The celebration of the diamond jubilee of Christchurch began to-day, when a civic reception was given by the Mayor, the Rev. J. K. Archer, to representatives of the Cabinet, the Mayors of Auckland, Dunedin and YVanganui, and other prominent visitors. Special football matches were played in the afternoon. In the evening there was a band concert and community singing in Victoria Square. Monday will be observed as a holiday. DONATION OF BANDSTAND. RESIDENTS' PUBLIC SPIRIT. [BY TELEGRAPH'. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] CHRISTCHURCH. Sunday. Mr. T. J. Edmonds, head of Edmonds, Limited, has presented to tho city, to mark the Diamond Jubilee, a band rotunda, complete with seating and lighting arrangements. The stand is valued at £3OOO.
