COLLIERY DISASTER.
SIXTY BODIES RECOVERED. MANY MINERS STILL MISSING. Australian Press Association—United Service (Received May '22. 5.5 p.m.) NEW YORK, May 2V: The deaths caused by the explosion in the colliery at Mather, Pennsylvania, now total 60. There are numerous men still missing and little hope is entertained that they will be found alive. Fire broke out in the wrecked mine today, and impeded the rescue work for some hours. Later the flames were controlled. Two miners whose story is given credence say they saw a cutting machine sever an electric cable. The sparks thus caused ignited the gas and coaldust below and a series of explosions follow d.
