POLAR EXPLORATION.
HELP TO METEOROLOGISTS. AIM OF CAPTAIN WILKINS. Australian and N.Z. Press Association. (Received May 22, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON. May 21. The Oslo correspondent of the British United Press Association says that Captain G. H. Wilkins states that his object in his polar exploration is less to discover land thin to obtain meterological data for the benefit of the world. For example, he desires to assist Australia in taking precautions against drought, in order to save hundreds of thousands of sheep. This will be one of the objects of his South Polar expedition. Signor Marconi has assured him that a short-wave wireless system of weather reports is feasible. A message from Berlin says the German Government will send a special aeroplane to Oslo, in which Captain Wilkins and Lieutenant ETelson will fly to Berlin.
